How to Apply to EMU

This page has info on undergraduate application to EMU. Looking for graduate or master’s programs or EMU’s Intensive English Program?

Undergraduate Admissions Checklist

  2. Send your Official High School or College transcripts to admiss@emu.edu.
    • College transcripts from institutions outside of the U.S. must be professionally evaluated by a to be considered.
      • We recommend the course-by-course (or "Detailed Report") evaluation from the following services:
        1. - $20 discount available
  3. English Language Proficiency: To evaluate your English language proficiency, we require verification through one of the following ways:
    Note: EMU reserves the right to ask for additional materials or an interview if necessary.
    • Send us your Official Scores from one of the following English Proficiency Tests (Duolingo, IELTS, TOEFL, SAT, ACT, PTE).
    • English is the primary language of your home country.
    • You were enrolled full-time for more than one year at a U.S. high school or college/university. (Verified by submitted transcripts)
    • All of your high school or college/university instruction was in English. (Please submit a signed/certified letter from your school to verify.)
    • Need to work on your English skills? Don't worry. Perfect your academic English skills through our Intensive English Program before beginning as an Undergraduate Student.
  4. Receive an Official Admissions decision from your Admissions Counselor.
  5. Begin Financial Aid & Visa Application Process.

Testing Requirements

For unconditional admission, you must meet the following requirements. Lower scores can be considered, but may be referred to our Intensive English Program.

SAT (#5181): Critical Reading 460, Math 460, Combined 980

ACT (#4348): English 19, Math 19, Cumulative 19

TOEFL/iBT (#5181): 79 or higher

IELTS: 6.5 or higher

PTE Academic (#9MK): 53 or higher

Duolingo: 104 or higher

Application Deadlines

The deadline to apply to EMU is June 1 for students interested in beginning in the Fall semester (August) and October 1 for students interested in beginning in the Spring Semester (January).

Deadlines for visa approvals are always 1 month before the start of International Student Orientation.
