Honors Program

About the Program: Welcome to the EMU Honors Program, where we believe that while change is beyond our control, we are not powerless to influence it. Inspired by early Anabaptist ideals and visionary writers like Octavia Butler, our curriculum focuses on helping students embrace change rather than fear it.

If you are a prospective student interested in the Honors Program, you are highly encouraged to apply for the full-tuition Honors Scholarship.

Core Outcomes:

  • Curiosity: Engage with diverse ideas, explore different academic disciplines, and connect with multiple community groups.
  • Connection: Form significant relationships through university activities and mutually beneficial partnerships with alumni mentors.
  • Contribution: Serve the EMU and Harrisonburg communities by designing and executing a self-directed project alongside your mentor.

How to Join: Any interested student is invited to explore the program by taking HONRS 100 “Engage” during the spring of their first year. Afterward, students with a minimum 3.5 GPA and a detailed resume showing community engagement, entrepreneurial initiative, or disruptive "good trouble" are eligible to apply. Accepted students will complete a dynamic, mentor-based curriculum and will be recognized as “Honors Scholars” with an Honors cord at graduation.
