Comment on “The Work of our Lifetimes” – Adam King by phil yoder /now/podcast/2016/11/17/the-work-of-our-lifetimes-adam-king/comment-page-1/#comment-17316 Thu, 17 Nov 2016 22:12:32 +0000 http://emu.edu/now/podcast/?p=4644#comment-17316 Just as folks get “stuck in idleness,” i.e. spending time doing nothing, it’s tempting to get “stuck in work,” i.e. spending time doing, doing, doing. One could argue that extreme forms of idleness are simply natural reactions to the extreme economics of Pharaoh.

So yes, “work hard and enjoy the fruit of your labor,” but also idle hard, and enjoy the fruit of your idleness. Is it ever appropriate to watch needs go unmet? If you’re going to burn-out then it’s all for naught. Indeed, we must cling to the promises of God that we shall not labor in vain. Perhaps it’s also fitting to say that we shall not idle in vain.

Just as Michael King said, “we all have some of the work of our lifetimes ahead of us,” I’d add: we all have some of the idleness of our lifetimes ahead of us!

Thoughts? Comments?
