The annual event provides professional development, mentor discussions, and networking opportunities for 100 of the best and brightest pre-service teachers in Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EMU\u2019s Teachers of Promise this year are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Mary Harnish, <\/strong>from Lancaster, Pa.; Elementary Education, PreK-6 &amp; Special Education<\/li><li><strong>Hannah Leaman, <\/strong>from Bakersfield, Ca.; Mathematics, Secondary Education, 6-12<\/li><li><strong>Rachel Lute, <\/strong>from New Market, Va.; Early Elementary Education, PreK-3<\/li><li><strong>Bethany Shultz, <\/strong>from Harrisonburg, Va.; Elementary Education, PreK-6\u00a0<\/li><li><strong>Anna Smith, <\/strong>from Edinburg, Va.;\u00a0 Elementary Education, PreK-6.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The honorees \u201cexemplify strong potential for impacting students in the classroom, high academic standing, commitment to the teaching profession, and embody EMU\u2019s teacher education mission to \u2018teach boldly in a changing world through an ethic of care and critical reflection,\u2019\u201d said program director and professor of education <strong>Cathy Smeltzer Erb.<\/strong> \u201cThis is a delightful group of honorees. I am confident that these future teachers will positively influence the lives of each student in their classrooms as they create and advocate for just and equitable learning environments.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor<strong> Barbara Wheatley <\/strong>is the students\u2019 teacher education faculty advisor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EMU\u2019s education program values experiential learning, offering early practicum experiences that help candidates determine their professional path. Teacher candidates choose from 15 different licensure programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The teacher education program is National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) accredited through the <a href=\"http:\/\/caepnet.org\/\">Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation<\/a> (CAEP).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Five education students from 草莓社区 (EMU) were chosen to attend the 2022 Teachers of Promise Institute, which was held March 25-26 in Midlothian, Va.
