{"id":21597,"date":"2014-09-16T15:54:40","date_gmt":"2014-09-16T19:54:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/?p=21597"},"modified":"2014-09-26T14:59:56","modified_gmt":"2014-09-26T18:59:56","slug":"artistic-productions-desired-for-emus-huge-centennial-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2014\/artistic-productions-desired-for-emus-huge-centennial-party\/","title":{"rendered":"Artistic productions desired for EMU\u2019s huge centennial party"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For 草莓社区\u2019s 100th anniversary in 2017, EMU\u2019s centennial planning committee is soliciting ideas and proposals for special productions of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/music\/\">music<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/theater\/\">theater<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/vaca\/\">visual arts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would like to debut a major theater or music production \u2013 or both \u2013 for our centennial celebration,\u201d said Louise Otto Hostetter \u201979, chair of the planning committee.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/alumni\/homecoming\/\">Homecoming and Family Weekend<\/a>, October 17-19, 2017, will be a pivotal point for the celebration, but commemorative activities will be held throughout the 2017-18 academic year.<\/p>\n<p>Other artistic ideas are also welcomed, Hostetter said, such as wall murals, fresh art for EMU\u2019s gallery spaces, photo-journalism projects, and film productions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIdeally, we\u2019d like to commission a member of our alumni base to serve as the centennial playwright or composer,\u201d said Hostetter. \u201cBut we are open to proposals from any sources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To submit ideas or proposals, visit emu.edu\/centennial, click on \u201cSubmit proposals, ideas, photos,\u201d and fill in \u201cCentennial Celebration Ideas Submission Form.\u201d Or email centennial@emu.edu.<\/p>\n<p>Submissions are due January 1, 2015. The centennial committee\u2019s selections will be announced on August 1, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Already underway is a fresh <a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2012\/03\/donald-b-kraybill-to-pen-emu-history\/\">history of EMU written by alumnus Donald Kraybill<\/a>, the nation\u2019s best-known writer on Amish and Mennonite culture.<\/p>\n<p>The centennial committee is encouraging alumni to upload photos from the history of EMC\/EMU for possible centennial-celebration usage. This can be done via the \u201ccelebration ideas submission form\u201d mentioned earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Eastern Mennonite School K-12 shared its first 50 years of history with EMU. The weekend of October 13-15, 2017, will be a joint celebration.
