The Runnin Royals beat Whitworth 74-71 in a nailbiter game Friday in front of a standing-room-only crowd in North Carolina. The men move on to the Saturday play-off that determines a spot in the NCAA D-III final four.

And while none of the Eastern Mennonite men’s basketball players had played a game in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship before this weekend, Eli Crawford used his experience from numerous high school state tournament games to help will the Runnin Royals to an 85-71 win over Wilmington Saturday night.

Members of the ��ݮ�� women’s basketball team pass through a "tunnel of applause" as part of a recognition and sendoff at the close of a chapel service Mar. 10. The team will leave campus Mar. 11 to compete in the NCAA Division III national tournament at the University of
Wisconsin at Stevens Point.

The Lady Royals are scheduled to play Hardin-Simmons University of Abilene, Tex., Mar. 12. EMU advanced to the "sweet sixteen" round on Mar. 6 by edging Christopher Newport University, 63-62, with a basket at the buzzer by sophomore guard/forward Laura Ludholtz. It is the first time an EMU women’s basketball team has advanced to the NCAA nationals. The NCAA final four championship will be played Mar. 19-20 at Virginia Wesleyan College, Virginia Beach.
