Garrett Nyce ā€™25 had his heart set on attending EMU. The Souderton, Pennsylvania, native was drawn to its small size and its focus on a ā€œbusiness for the common goodā€ philosophy, which few if any other schools offered.

ā€œItā€™s a triple bottom line of people, planet and profits,ā€ the business analytics and economics major said. ā€œNot how to make the most money, but how to create the best world for people.ā€

ā€œThat was something I didnā€™t think I would find at a lot of other schools,ā€ he added.

But, as he applied to colleges, a small Christian university near his hometown offered him enough financial aid that ā€œit wouldā€™ve cost almost nothing to go there.ā€ As a self-described economics nerd, Nyce couldnā€™t ignore the tempting offer. ā€œIā€™m so business-minded, it was hard to make that decision,ā€ he said.  

EMU sprung into action to make his decision easier. The school awarded him the Horace & Elizabeth Longacre Business Scholarship ā€” designated for full-time business students with a priority toward Mennonite students from Pennsylvania ā€” and the choice became clear: he would become an EMU Royal.

Itā€™s scholarships like the one Nyce received and the financial aid packages given to 100 percent of undergraduate EMU students that empower them to pursue a quality college education without financial barriers. 

Three years into his education at EMU, Nyce couldnā€™t imagine himself anywhere else. The junior wields a mighty bat on the Royals baseball team, serves as a Royal Ambassador and is on the Leadership Council.

ā€œEMU just feels like home,ā€ he said. ā€œIt just feels right.ā€
