It was fun to recount many memories on that initial turf field! One field hockey story that’s probably flown under the radar is that of the 1999 team. The team only had 11 players that season – the exact number needed to play a game – and still remained undefeated in ODAC that year and won the conference championship. What a gritty team that was!

Congratulations to the early visionaries who built the field hockey program at EMU, to coaches and to all of the hard working and talented players! It is a great honor to have our daughter, Jen Kooker Peifer, as one of them and an Athletic Hall of Honor Inductee. The values, team friendships and life skills learned as a team player are not charted on a graph, rather they are seen in day to day living of players and coaches.
The story of Goalkeeper, Shirley Yoder Faust’s integrity is one to proclaim as a hallmark in EMU’s athletic history! Tell it over and over! Post it on the Athletic Hall of Honor. It is a story I long to hear from more and more places in our world!
