In the mid-70s, as an education student at Northern Illinois University, I did a paper on “bibliotherapy.” At that time it seemed to be a relatively new term. Since then, as a teacher, librarian and parenting educator, it became an important part of my practice. And now, with my grandchildren, I use it often, along with dialogical reading. Kudos to EMU for using this practice in the act of community service!
