For the second straight year, and fourth time in the past five season, EMU has at least one baseball player on the All-ODAC First Team.
The Royals’聽聽(Waynesboro, Va./Wilson Memorial) was voted to the utility spot on the All-ODAC First Team, repeating his honor from last spring. He is also the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete. Freshman聽聽(Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) took All-ODAC Second Team at third base, in the awards released by the ODAC office today.
In two years聽at Eastern Mennonite, Frazier quickly emerged as a standout. In his final campaign, he batted team highs of 30 RBIs, 49 hits, 11 doubles and seven home runs. He was second on the team with a .312 batting average, 23 runs, 14 walks and six stolen bases. Frazier was particularly tough during ODAC play, which were the basis of the All-ODAC voting, where he hit .398 with five homeruns and nine doubles, accounting 20 RBIs and 15 runs. He was second among all ODAC players in conference games in hits, doubles, home runs and slugging percentage. Frazier was also EMU’s No. 1 pitcher, finishing with a record of 2-4 with a 5.12 ERA. Along with pitching, he spent time in the field at first base as well as a few games at shortstop.
Frazier also became the second consecutive EMU player to win the Scholar-Athlete award, following two-time All-ODAC First Teamer聽Joe Hall聽from last year. Frazier holds a 3.54 GPA at Eastern Mennonite as he works on his MA in Interdisciplinary Studies (Organizational Leadership). He carried a 3.83 GPA from D-II Concord, graduating with his bachelor’s degree in just three years.
Lindsay took over EMU’s hot corner early on and finished as one of the ODAC’s top freshmen. He and fellow Second Teamer Will Salva were the only two first years named amongst the three All-ODAC teams. Lindsay hit a team-high .314, and his 16 walks helped him to a .411 on-base percentage, both team highs as well. He scored 18 runs with 12 RBIs and five stolen bases, and hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games. In the field, he led the team with 70 assists and sported a solid .924 fielding percentage.
Despite missing six ODAC games with a late-season injury, Lindsay batted .404 in league play with a .456 on-base percentage and .538 slugging percentage. He returned during the final doubleheader of the season in time to hit his first collegiate home run, a two-run walk-off shot in a 9-7 extra-inning win over Lynchburg.
Frazier’s spot on the All-ODAC First Team follows last spring when he and Hall were each on the top team. Hall,聽Justin Rodriguez听补苍诲听Austin Marzullo聽represented EMU on the First Team in 2015, and current assistant coach聽Adam Posey聽had a spot there in 2014, giving聽Coach Ben Spotts聽seven All-ODAC First Team performers over his last five seasons.
The Royals finished the 2018 campaign with a record of 15-24. They were 6-14 in ODAC play, being eliminated from postseason contention with a loss in their final game of the regular season.
