As an Associate Professor of Nursing at EMU, and a dually-certified Nurse-Midwife and Psychiatric Mental-Health Nurse Practiioner, Ann combines a life-long interest in clinical practice and nursing education. Ann first pursued a doctorate in Counseling Psychology, but after earning her Master’s switched her focus to nursing and midwifery. She completed the 2nd degree BSN program at UVA, then earned her CNM, MSN , and DNP at Frontier Nursing University. She is a Certified Nurse-Educator (CNE), and recently, she completed her PMHNP at Radford University, which completes the circle of her initial commitment to mental healthcare. Over the years, Ann has worked in a variety of practice settings. Teaching allows her to help educate the next generation of nurses, and also tell some great stories! Her professional interests include healthcare quality improvement, burnout mitigation in healthcare workers, education innovation and mentorship, gynecology and sexuality education. Ann lives with her husband in the city of Harrisonburg, with her young adult sons visiting often and her parents at VMRC. Outside of work, Ann volunteers at the Blue Ridge Free Clinic and enjoys gardening and travel.
